Frequently Asked Questions

What Can I Expect?

The ADRC Nutrition Program provides nutritious meals in Polk County and Burnett County through the ADRC Dining Program and Meals on Wheels® of Northwest Wisconsin.

The Meals on Wheels® program delivers hot meals to individuals who are unable to attend the dining sites and who meet the home-bound eligibility criteria, which are listed in the FAQ under “How Do I Start?”. Meals are delivered Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays by volunteers. Frozen meals are available for Wednesdays, weekends, and holiday closures upon request.

Each meal provided meets one-third of the recommended daily dietary allowances and includes meat or other protein, two servings of vegetables, one serving of fruit, bread, dessert, and milk.

One of our dedicated volunteers will bring a meal to your home, deliver it to your door, and greet you with a smile. Our volunteers love what they do and often build friendly connections with meal recipients, checking in during deliveries!

What Does it Cost?

Effective July 1st, 2025 – Due to ongoing budget constraints, a waitlist is currently in place for meals provided at a contribution rate. Individuals age 60 and older who are homebound and interested in receiving home-delivered meals must complete an assessment to determine waitlist eligibility or may choose to pay the full meal cost of $12.00 per meal.

Home-delivered meal costs and suggested contribution amounts are as follows:

Individuals under 60 Years of Age (who does not reside with or is not married to someone 60+ who is eligible): $12 charge per meal. These individuals are required to sign an agreement indicating they can and will pay the full meal charge for each meal they receive.

Individuals 60+: $4-6 suggested contribution per meal for those who qualify. These participants are encouraged to contribute any amount they can afford.

Funding is provided by Older Americans Act (OAA) funds, state and county funds, private contributions, and participant payments/contributions.

Can I Volunteer?

Here looking for volunteer information? MOW volunteer drivers deliver hot and cold meals to MOW participants who have mobility barriers in Polk and Burnett Counties.

They are not only in charge of ensuring each meal is delivered to the MOW participants in a timely manner but also provide a daily check-in to make sure everything is ok with the MOW participants. Knowing someone will be checking on their aging loved one four days a week, is an enormous relief for many caregivers.

MOW volunteer drivers donate their time using their own vehicle to deliver the meals and are reimbursed for their mileage at the current IRS mileage reimbursement rate.

To get involved and lend a hand contact us at 877-485-2372 or visit our volunteer page and complete the form at the bottom.

The ADRC posts the current and upcoming menus. Menus for the following month are posted near the end of the current month. They are also available in our newsletter, The Voice.

Each meal provided meets one-third of the recommended daily dietary allowance
