What is Meals On Wheels?
“Since its first delivery in 1954, Meals on Wheels has been driven by one simple goal: to improve the health and well-being of our senior neighbors. What began as a compassionate idea has grown into one of America’s largest and most impactful social movements. With a focus on nutrition and social connection, we’re committed to ensuring that every senior who needs Meals on Wheels has access to it.” – Meals on Wheels America Website

What is the Dining Program?
The ADRC dining program offers multiple dining locations across both Polk and Burnett counties. Community members can come to dine in a social setting with others. Dining sites are open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Each has its own serving time. They may close for unsafe weather and holidays. Menus, locations, and serving times can be found on the Dining Program page.
Each meal provided meets one-third of the recommended daily dietary allowances and includes meat or other protein, two servings of vegetables, one serving of fruit, bread, dessert, and milk.
The cost/voluntary donation amounts for congregate dining are as follows:
- General Public: $12
- Individuals 60 Years of Age and Older: $4 – $6 suggested donation.
No one (60+ years of age) is ever denied services because of the inability to donate the suggested amount.
Can I Volunteer?
Here looking for volunteer information? We need volunteers to prepare meals and work the meal sites, as well as individuals who can deliver meals to those in need.
MOW volunteer drivers deliver hot and cold meals to MOW participants who have mobility barriers in Polk and Burnett Counties. They are not only in charge of ensuring each meal is delivered to the MOW participants in a timely manner but also provide a daily check-in to make sure everything is ok with the MOW participants. Knowing someone will be checking on their aging loved one four days a week, is an enormous relief for many caregivers. MOW volunteer drivers donate their time using their own vehicle to deliver the meals and are reimbursed for their mileage at the current IRS mileage reimbursement rate.
Meal site volunteers help support the activities at meal sites and/or prepare food for both on-site dining and home-delivered meal recipients.
These are generally low time commitments,
